MLB is investigating Luis Ortiz and placed the Cleveland Guardians pitcher on nondisciplinary paid leave, the league announced Thursday. The Guardians said they were "not permitted to comment" on the reason.

ESPN's Jeff Passan confirmed MLB is investigating Ortiz for gambling-related activities. The Athletic's Zack Meisel noted Ortiz, who was scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Chicago Cubs, is on "non-disciplinary paid leave" and he will be out at least through the All-Star break.

Luis Ortiz, acquired by Cleveland from Pittsburgh during the offseason, was placed on paid leave through the All-Star break as part of ongoing probe.
