Iran's government is preparing for what will be a dayslong funeral for the former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an airstrike in the first day of the war in February.
U.S. officials were concerned that Israel might try to assassinate Iran’s negotiators during recent ceasefire talks and Tehran was warned about the possible threat, according to a U.S. official and an Iranian official with knowledge of the matter.
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf has warned of an Iranian response if the U.S. and Israel breach the interim peace deal, as Tehran prepares to bury its former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The Iranian president described the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran as a breach of international law and said Tehran would use all available legal and diplomatic mechanisms to seek accountability.
US President Donald Trump warned Iran “will no longer exist” if strikes continue, while Tehran has threatened to halt negotiations.
"The danger Kurds pose is down the road," a former U.S. official told Newsweek.
The remarks come as Washington and Tehran continue indirect negotiations aimed at consolidating the fragile peace agreement reached after months of conflict.
Iran allegedly attacked commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz to counter a new southern corridor developed by the U.S. and Oman, analysts say.
