BYU had its chances to put some distance between the Jayhawks earlier. At the end of the first half, Retzlaff had BYU inside the five-yard line with 39 seconds left. The Cougars had two timeouts. But inside of running the ball, the offense opted for a fade route that was intercepted in the end zone.

Call it mistake-filled. Call it the clock striking midnight on BYU’s magical season at 11:37 p.m. MST, some 23 minutes to spare before Cinderella turned into a team that couldn’t find paydirt when it mattered most.

The Kansas Jayhawks take on BYU Saturday night in Provo, Utah. The Jayhawks (3-6, 2-4 Big 12) are coming off a big win against Iowa State. Their next task is a daunting one, however, as they take on the 9-0 Cougars at what’s sure to be a loud LaVell Edwards Stadium.
