There was a scary moment during Saturday’s game between the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs, which led to some polarizing reactions after the fact.

Ryan Reaves’ night came to an abrupt end on Saturday. The bruising Maple Leafs forward was ejected from Saturday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers after he received a five-minute match penalty for a hit on Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse.

Oilers captain Connor McDavid pleaded with referees while trainers attended to Nurse on the ice as play was halted to clean up the blood on the spot of the hit. Reaves was handed a match penalty for the illegal check to the head and immediately ejected from the game.
