Thousands of Canada Post workers in Calgary and many more across the country are on strike after an agreement wasn’t reached with their employer. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has been negotiating the renewal of their collective agreement with Canada Post since November last year.

The statement says mail and parcels will not be delivered for the duration of the strike, and some post offices will be closed. Canada Post says shutting down facilities will affect its national network, with processing and delivery of mail possibly needing time to return to normal once the strike is over.

Fifty-five thousand Canada Post workers are now on strike after the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and the crown corporation failed to reach an agreement before the midnight deadline on Friday. Jaden Lee-Lincoln has more on where the two sides stand.
