Over 100 people have died after heavy rain pounded Kerr County, Texas, early Friday, leading to "catastrophic" flooding, the sheriff said.

Kerr County officials Tuesday appeared to dodge questions about how soon they were notified about deadly flash floods in central Texas and who was responsible for immediate response efforts, as law enforcement warned the death toll from the flooding will likely rise.

First responders struggled with difficult terrain as they continued search and recovery efforts. Officials have confirmed at least 106 people died in the Hill Country region, including 30 children and 56 adults in Kerr County.
