The death toll of the weekend flooding in Texas is still rising as the search for victims continues. The big picture: Flash floods are the top storm-related killer in the U.S., per the National Weather Service,

Heavy rains fell quickly in the predawn hours of Friday in the Texas Hill Country, causing the Gaudalupe River to rise 26 feet in just 45 minutes.

The National Weather Service extended a flood watch July 7 through 7 p.m. local time for much of central Texas.
