Chicago Cubs President Jed Hoyer said left-hander Matthew Boyd has “exceeded expectations” with his stellar first half of the season.

Matthew Boyd allowed two runs over seven innings against his most recent former team as the Chicago Cubs beat the visiting Cleveland Guardians July 1.

After the compliments ended, Vogt sat back and watched what the Guardians lost when Boyd signed with the Cubs in December. The veteran left-hander worked seven efficient innings to beat the Guardians, 5-2, and extend their losing streak to a season-high five games.
