The steep trail north of Vivian Lake traverses down a north-facing slope, providing a challenge to the day hiker. Continuing north of Vivian Lake, the trail parallels Fall Creek along a magnificent series of rapids and waterfalls, the largest of which - Fall Creek Falls - plunges over basalt cliffs more than 100 feet tall.

This trail runs from the Vivian Lake Trailhead in the west, past Notch and Vivian Lakes, to a junction with the Diamond Creek Falls Trail #3598, about 1 mile southwest of the Salt Creek Falls Observation Site.

The cold, blue waters of this alpine lake provide a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy the quietude of the forest. A trail leads around the lake’s edge with great views and access to backcountry campsites.

Most people traveling the Willamette Pass Highway, pull off here to look at the state's second highest waterfall, Salt Creek Falls. Or they may be drawn further to see Diamond Creek Falls. But from this same parking lot you can begin your journey to lovely Vivian Lake. From Eugene take Highway 58, turning right at Salt Creek Falls and park.
