Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations
Treaty No. 6 was signed on August 23, 1876 at Fort Carlton in Saskatchewan. The total area of the Treaty stretches from western Alberta, through Saskatchewan and into Manitoba; and includes 50 First Nations.

Treaty No. 6 is an International Treaty entered into with the Crown of Great Britain. Provisions in the Treaty recognize the Medicine Chest Clause, Famine and Pestilence Clause as well as the rights to Health, Education and other Treaty and Inherent Rights.

The office of the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations was created in the spring of 1993. Its purpose: to serve as the united political voice for our Member Nations, because they believe that there is a need for fundamental treaty and human rights of First Nations people to be protected.

The Confederacy of Treaty Six asserts that Education is a Treaty and Inherent Right. Education Services provided to Treaty Six First Nation signatories, reaffirms the Aboriginal and Treaty Rights with the Crown through the fulfillment of federal fiduciary responsibilities.

Grand Chief Biography. Okimaw (Chief) Cody Thomas of Enoch Cree Nation in Alberta, Canada Plains Cree. Member of the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations. In 2022 he ran for Chief and was elected as Chief of Enoch Cree Nation, also named “The Peoples Chief” on June 24, 2022.
