Unlike many birds of prey, vultures are relatively social and usually feed, roost and fly in large flocks. A group of resting vultures is called a committee, venue or volt. A group in flight is called a kettle, while a group of vultures feeding together is referred to as a wake. It’s not unusual to see turkey vultures roosting together with black vultures, sometimes even by the hundreds. Visit our Center and you might be lucky enough to spot a “vulture committee” yourself.
