On Thursday we released this Pokotiwha, Snares Crested penguin (Eudyptes robustus) from our rehab back into the wild. Pokotiwha are one of 8 crested penguin species, and one of the 4 that breed within Aotearoa. They have the most restricted breeding distribution of all the crested penguins as they only reproduce on Tini Heke, the Snares Islands group. Pokotiwha are phenomenal divers, chasing fish, krill and squid at depths between 15 to 80 metres, only coming ashore to breed and moult. This Poko
